Netflix, Inc. And Amazon Refuse To Pick “Hannibal” For Fourth Season
How great would it be if Fuller was able to announce to Fannibals tomorrow that “Hannibal” had officially found a new home?
The series was shockingly axed in June after only three of its 13-episode third season had aired. As for Netflix and Amazon passing on a pickup, Fuller clued in the crowd.
Bryan Fuller and the cast of “Hannibal” stopped by Comic-Con to answer one question on fans’ minds: will “Hannibal” find a new home?
“Plus, streaming services prefer to acquire shows that allow them to augment their back catalogs and the show’s exclusive deal with Amazon for the distribution rights of the first three seasons could be a problem”, the report added. After the announcement, Fuller said hope is still alive to keep the uncanny friendship and cat and mouse chase between Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) and Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) alive.
Fuller has been incredibly candid about the future of Hannibal since its NBC cancellation, acknowledging that there’s just a “50//50 chance” of a fourth season. “There’s the possibility of a feature”.
It’s been about two-and-a-half weeks since “Hannibal” was canceled, and while we know Amazon and Netflix won’t be picking up the series, we’re hoping another cable channel or streaming site will – or already has. A report by TheWrap revealed that Netflix and Amazon rejected to house season 4 and thus no renewal news yet for the story of Will Graham and Dr. Hannibal Lecter. Let’s see… and here be spoilers, so don’t say we didn’t warn you. “It’s an emotional thing for al of us and it’s not over in the sense that we’re fully committed and have been living this for a few years – and that’s still very true in this moment”. “The connection we’ve had with this very special fan community that has been so overwhelmingly supportive”.
As for what’s to come, Dancy noted that there will be a three-year time jump between this past week’s episode and the show’s next installment on Thursday – which will see Will married.
