Liverpool’s Danny Ings given first senior England call up – but Daniel

England manager Roy Hodgson has included Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli and Liverpool striker Danny Ings in his squad for the first time for the forthcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers with Estonia and Lithuania.

MK Dons academy product Dele Alli has continued his staggering rise in football by earning a first call up to the senior England squad.

Hodgson names his squad today and Ings’ call up reward for his eye-catching form for Liverpool following a summer switch from Burnley.

England host Estonia at Wembley on Friday October 9 before they travel to Lithuania for their final qualifier three days later.

The Manchester United defender featured for England in last month’s victories over San Marino and Switzerland, but misses out after breaking his leg in two places during the Champions League defeat to PSV Eindhoven.

Jamie Vardy, who has scored six goals for Leicester this season, is included.

With captain Wayne Rooney struggling for goals and Danny Welbeck out long term it is no surprise that Hodgson has made a decision to look at Ings.

‘Dele Ali is the more offbeat one because he is so young, but we have been impressed. It is a good opportunity for him to come when so many midfielders are missing through injury because who knows going forward where he will end up. He is an exciting talent’.

The games against Estonia and Lithuania will be the Three Lions’ last competitive games before the tournament takes place next summer.

“We think it is better for Daniel Sturridge to work on his fitness”. It may damage our chances of getting the ideal 10 (wins) but I’m prepared to accept that.

On Aston Villa winger Jack Grealish’s decision to pursue an global career with England, rather than the Republic of Ireland, Hodgson added: “I’m very pleased”.
