Louisville Slugger Museum honors Yogi Berra
“This is the bat Yogi would use, well, model anyway toward the end of his career”, Louisville Slugger Museum employee Tony Shupenko said. He wrote three books: his 1961 autobiography, “Yogi: It Ain’t Over” in 1989 and “The Yogi Book: I Really Didn’t Say Everything I Said” in 1998. He looked at it in detail.
“I felt like I saw Yogi all the time in the clubhouse”.
He was inducted into Cooperstown’s Baseball’s Hall of Fame 1972.
Berra was born in St. Louis on May 12, 1925, the son of Pietro, a laborer in a brickyard, and Pauline Berra.
Berra died in his sleep earlier this week at an assisted living facility in West Caldwell, N.J. “It’s a sad day, but he certainly had a very positive impact on the people around him and a positive impact on the game of baseball”. “He was sort of like one of us and I think that’s why we, as a country, mourn his loss”.
Although they played against each other and were teammates on All-Star teams, Kaline said he really got to know Berra during Hall of Fame weekends.
Whether you root for the Yankees or not, it wasn’t hard to respect Berra’s play on the field, or enjoy his personality once he stepped away from the game. To those lucky ones who did, he was an even better person.
Lamoriello was singled out in the piece. He was 90 years old at the time. “They both put a lot into scouting, instruction and the farm system”.
“If people don’t want to come out to the park, nobody’s going to stop them.” . “The Devils do it the same way”.
Rodriguez said he was grateful for the support of Berra, whose death brought an outpouring of mourning from all corners of America, from Derek Jeter to President Barack Obama to Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner.
“To those who didn’t know Yogi personally, he was one of the greatest baseball players and Yankees of all time”.
“Imagine as a young kid, getting to walk in the @NHLDevils locker room and seeing the Legendary Yogi working out every morning!” I’m partial to “love is the most important thing in the world, but baseball is pretty good too”, but there are countless others. “But egads, you gotta be somethin’ to get in”.
