Gostkowski wins AFC special teamer of month for third time
Quarterback Tom Brady was named the AFC’s offensive player of the month on Thursday and kicker Stephen Gostkowski has taken home special teams honors.
In New England’s 3-0 start to the season, Brady completed 96 of his 133 passes (good for a 72.2 percent completion percentage) and threw for an NFL-leading 1,112 yards.
The Patriots return to action next Sunday, October 11, when they travel to Arlington to face the Dallas Cowboys.
With September in the books, and the Patriots on the bye week, we get to look back to see how the team performed in the season’s opening month.
Brady certainly was deserving of the league’s weekly awards – as he has gotten off to one of the best starts of his career. In addition, he became just the fourth quarterback to throw 400 career touchdowns when he connected last Sunday during a rout of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
This time around, there were no true contenders for the AFC’s Offensive Player of the Month award other than the Patriots quarterback.
It’s the third time in his career that Gostkowski’s foot has made him a monthly honoree.
Brady had 288 yards and four touchdowns in the win vs. Pittsburgh, 466 yards and three touchdowns at Buffalo, followed by 358 yards and two touchdowns in the win against Jacksonville. Gostkowski leads the National Football League in scoring with 35 points.
Gostkowski is flawless on the season through the first three games, going 7-for-7 on field goals and 14-for-14 on extra points.
