Ukraine begins trial against alleged Russian troops

PRESIDENT Petro Poroshenko says Ukraine today has to implement so much needed systemic reforms while opposing the Russian aggressor that tries to undermine the democratic European development the Ukrainian people have chosen.

Speaking to the UN General Assembly, US President Barack Obama said Washington was “prepared to work with any nation, including Russian Federation and Iran, to resolve the conflict” in Syria.

“I am a prisoner of war and a hostage who has been abducted”, Savchenko told the court in a dramatic speech, saying separatist rebels captured her in eastern Ukraine and told her they would “sell” her to Russian Federation.

“Ukraine stands for the gradual limitation of [its] veto right with its further cancellation,” he said in English.

Poroshenko accused Russian Federation of a “military reckless game” by invading Ukraine’s Donbass region.

A fragile ceasefire appears to be holding, but Mr Poroshenko and western officials say there are continuing concerns about the presence of Russian troops and equipment in separatist-held areas.

Another stumbling block is Ukraine’s eastern border – Russian Federation is supposed to grant Kiev control of the stretch not under its jurisdiction.

Kiir signed under heavy pressure from the United States, which had championed the country’s fight for independence from Sudan.

Poroshenko scoffed at Putin’s offer Monday to form a coalition to combat regional terrorist threats around the world. “Cool story, but really hard to believe”.

“How can you call for an anti-terrorist coalition when you are encouraging terrorisim on your doorstep?”

“How can you speak of freedom for nations – if you punish your neighbour for his choice?”

The Russian delegation wasn’t present as Poroshenko made his accusations, which were not backed by any proof.

After the confronting sides in eastern Ukraine announced a fresh truce in the beginning of September, very few in Ukraine believed that it would be observed because the previous ceasefires had been short-lived. Ukraine’s parliament approved a presidential bill on changes to the constitution that would grant greater autonomy in August.

“They had masks on and had automatic rifles”, she said, adding they appeared to be Russian special forces officers.

The G-7 groups Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States.

“Collective voice of our organization is absolutely clear,” he said. Evidence points to Russian Federation, but their vetoes on the council have stalled investigations to find out “who organized this crime and from which country the mentioned arms had been transported”.

Putin’s proposal to create a coalition against terrorism in which the Muslim countries will “play a key role”, has become an indirect opposition to the USA policy in Syria (the Americans continue to put their faith in the so-called moderate opposition there – barely visible in the political field and not discernible on the battlefields with the Assad regime).
