Eagles LB Kiko Alonso (knee) will be able to return this season
“But because we have two linebackers down that aren’t injure reserve candidate type guys in Mychal [Kendricks] and Kiko [Alonso], so you gotta kind of figure out where do I get that extra spot right now”. Alonso is in Florida rehabbing his left knee injury.
On Wednesday, Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News reported that Eagles linebacker Kiko Alonso would have his left knee scoped by Dr. James Andrews to determine the extent of the injury he suffered in Week Two against the Cowboys.
“He’s doing a few rehab work [in Florida]”, Kelly said of Alonso. If Kendricks is healthy enough, the team will combine him with veteran DeMeco Ryans and rookie Jordan Hicks.
“We’ll see. We’d like to have nine [offensive lineman], that’s the ideal number for us”, Kelly said.
No timetable has been set for Alonso’s return. “I don’t think it’s surgery, I mean he’s coming back on Friday”.
It’s not what the Eagles expected at the beginning of the season, but it’s better than what they dealt with last week and what could have been if Alonso required season-ending surgery.
Alonso totaled seven tackles and one interception in just a little over one game this season.
Earlier this month, a report claimed Alonso’s “season was in jeopardy” after the initial diagnosis. They got their first win this past week against the New York Jets, 24-17.
“Injuries happen, but you’ve just got to bounce back from them”, Kendricks said.
