Mavericks Aquire Center After Losing Out On Jordan
After DeAndre Jordan had a change of heart and spurned the Mavericks to re-sign with the Los Angeles Clippers, Dallas was left with an enormous void at the center position. The Mavericks lost out to Brooklyn in 2012 when Williams was a free agent. Now with big men falling off the market the Dallas Mavericks went looking for their other options all around the league.
The Mavericks wasted little time getting a replacement, acquiring Zaza Pachulia from the Milwaukee Bucks for a second-round pick.
Pachulia could be the starting center for the Mavs next season, and that may not be as bad as fans make it out to be.
At 6-foot-11, 270 pounds, Pachulia is an energy guy with tremendous size and strength. He had his peak moments in Atlanta, playing a crucial role off the bench during their playoff runs.
Pachulia was the third Milwaukee veteran to be traded this summer, along with Jared Dudley and Ersan Ilyasova. He has career averages of 7.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 21.0 minutes.
The Georgian Pachulia, 31, averaged 8.3 points and 6.8 rebounds last season as part of one of the best defensive units in basketball in Milwaukee.
Dallas is largely making this move to fill up cap space, but Pachulia is going to be someone the Mavericks use to offset the loss of Jordan this summer.
