‘Certain Segment’ of Muslims Are a ‘Problem’
Lemon asked Trump, following a conversation about a how the Republican presidential candidate handled a recent anti-Muslim townhall questioner.
Trump was quick to point out that when the unidentified man asked him the question at one of his rallies, he didn’t answer the question.
Trump replied by saying that “I think that I’m a very nice person”, because of course he does – it’s in his brand’s best interest.
Trump said, “Are they a problem?” The Tea Party? The Evangelicals you realize I’m top along with Evangelicals. “And unless you want to be so politically correct where you want me to say, ‘Oh, absolutely not.’ I mean, you have ISIS”.
The first time Trump considered running for president 15 years ago, he was interviewed by the Advocate, and he talked freely about his support for gay rights and defended Mexicans. The business mogul stirred another campaign-trail controversy last month when he declined to correct a supporter who declared that Muslims are a “problem” for the country and that President Barack Obama was a Muslim foreigner. “They call them dunkings, drownings, where they put people in a cage and dump them in the ocean”, he continued. “Democrats like me. Liberals like me…it’s straight across the board”.
The CNN host then asked Trump if he is racist.
“Some people may perceive you as racist”, Lemon said, switching gears. Trump has repeatedly said the seats were empty because people moved to stand in the front.
“Do you think Muslims are a problem?”
“The dais was packed with people, packed with people.
I didn’t respond”, Trump said. You have the migration. You know who might admires me?
He added that he only attended the event as a favor “to a couple of friends who just happened to be African-American” – which doesn’t exactly help his cause – and that CNN did him and the black community a disservice by showing images of the event demonstrating that it was sparsely attended.
