John Carpenter To Play Live Show
Next year, the soundtrack genius will headline ATP Iceland, which runs from July 1 to 3 in the former North Atlantic Treaty Organisation base Ásbrú. His performance at ATP Iceland next year will be focused on his scores. This is the first time he’s performed his music live in front of a public audience.
ATP’s Barry Hogan adds, “We are incredibly honoured to present the first ever show by this legendary film-maker and composer”.
The veteran musician will take to the stage in Keflavik to perform a “musical retrospective” of his work, including tracks from his debut album Lost Themes, and selections from his classic soundtracks, such as Halloween, Christine and They Live. If you’re a John Carpenter fan, this sounds like it’s a cannot-miss event, so you better book your tickets now.
Composers before him had used minimalism to create terror, whether it was two piano notes for a killer shark or the stabbing strings of a mother-obsessed psychopath, but it was Halloween’s brilliantly interwoven synth melodies that truly took genre scoring to a new, more sinister level.
In its review, Pitchfork called “Lost Themes” “a set of independent compositions that echo the sinister tones of the director’s film work”, with each track “a sort of mini-score unto itself, shuffling a theme through a variety of moods and variations”.
“This is music for the movies in your mind”. Fortunately, next year, a John Carpenter live show will finally become a reality.
