Giants’ Victor Cruz suffers setback; Sunday return in doubt
Victor Cruz’s return to action took a detour today, when the wide receiver left the field during the period early in practice devoted to individual drills.
12, when he tore his right patellar tendon and was carted off the field at the Linc, may very well culminate in tears of joy Sunday in Buffalo when, if all goes as expected the rest of this week, Cruz finally begins his comeback. He recovered from that knee injury, but a calf problem has been troubling him since training camp. However as people wrapped up, Cruz walked to the sidelines, having felt one thing in his nagging left calf. Cruz, who had not tried to practice since August 17, did not speak to reporters following practice.
Cruz has missed 13 consecutive regular-season games, and spent untold hours rehabilitating his knee.
Giants coach Tom Coughlin said that Cruz was unable to practice Wednesday after feeling a few discomfort in his calf.
Even with Victor Cruz coming back, wide receiver Rueben Randle is still a player to watch this Sunday. “We could tell he was not quite ready, yet, to play full speed”. He’s improving and we’re hoping.
Cornerback Prince Amukamara said Cruz has been diligent working to get back on the field, noting he was working with the trainers last weekend when the team was off. According to Bleacher Report, the American football team from New York will need to put their best foot forward as they will be challenging against a tougher opponent.
Sunday’s game could also be critical to the New York Giants. All the Giants know for sure is what they learned again on Wednesday – that Cruz’s return has always been a bigger “if” than any of them wanted to believe.
Cruz had Week One targeted for months as his return date. “Not only just the player that he is, just the leader he is and the type of person he is, the type of teammate he is”, Ayers said. This will definitely help the Giants offense which has been up and down so far this season for the first three games.
