Joy for Warrington punter after placing £10 on Everton to complete comeback
Three second-half goals and a brace from Romelu Lukaku saw Everton come from behind to win 3-2 over West Brom at The Hawthorns.
As Deulofeu underlined his match-winning potential, Lukaku pinched the man-of-the-match award thanks to an assist for Arouna Kone’s equaliser and his first league goals since the second game of the season.
Craig Dawson doubled the lead shortly after the break, but a combination of Lukaku and a few well-timed substitutions by Martinez swung the contest in Everton’s favour.
It was only the second time Everton have won in the Premier League after being two goals down following on from their comeback win over AFC Wimbledon in 1994.
It was the striker’s second goal since returning to the starting line-up following his deadline day strike threat and underlined why the Baggies were so determined to keep him away from Tottenham.
Credit to the players who came off the bench; they helped us.
Our Birmingham City punters in the Transfer Tavern really will be crying into their pint if Gray slips through the net to their West Midlands rivals, given the rivalry between the two.
Martinez’s side were out-of-sorts and had conceded just before half-time when mistakes from Ramiro Funes Mori and Gareth Barry led to Saido Berahino opening the scoring. In general, when Everton does a good job of giving Lukaku service, he contributes to goals and they win.
“Jonny has played a couple of games for us and he has already shown the qualities that we thought he had”, Pulis said.
“Our first-half performance wasn’t up to the level, every player was off two or three per cent. We were quite loose and quite ordinary”.
Indeed, the turnaround was particularly impressive given the track record of West Brom manager Tony Pulis, who is known for his well-organised sides.
And the Spain Under-21 worldwide echoed those sentiments by speaking of his desire to make a starting 11 place his own as soon as possible.
Their first victory at Villa Park since 2011 kept their clean sheet streak away from home going and lifted them four points clear of their rivals. Deulofeu laid on a peach of a cross in the first half that Barkley lost in his legs, and the Spaniard was furious, gesticulating wildly at Barkley.
