Garnett signs contract with Timberwolves
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – A person with knowledge of the agreement tells The Associated Press that the two-year contract Kevin Garnett will sign with the Minnesota Timberwolves is worth $16 million.
Now that Garnett is returning for a 21st season in the National Basteball Association, Saunders says he is counting on the franchise icon to not only be a leader off the court, but a productive player on it as well.
Garnett returned to the Wolves after spending most of last season with the Brooklyn Nets.
According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the Timberwolves are hoping Garnett can play at least 20 minutes per game next season.
“We are excited that KG has made a decision to continue his career with us”, said Timberwolves president of basketball operations and head coach Flip Saunders. “His big thing is his body just wasn’t able to bounce back like it did when he was in his prime”. One of those is his new teammate, Karl-Anthony Towns, the first pick in this year’s draft, who was born 12 days after Garnett made his National Basteball Association debut in 1995.
“I’m excited to be part of this process for the future”, Garnett said in a statement issued by the team. Garnett’s presence will bring maturity and veteran leadership to a fledgling team that suddenly looks poised to make an impact on the league sooner rather than later. “I can’t wait to build something special with this group of guys”. It should be great.
Minnesota selected the power forward-center as fifth overall in the 1995 National Basteball Association Draft.
As the Timberwolves came up with a deal for Garnett, the team also announced the signing of Towns and fellow rookie no. 24 pick Tyus Jones.
