Jeff Samardzija: Samardzija keeps Royals to two runs in win
Samardzija picked up his second consecutive victory, but the partnership between the right-hander and his favorite team growing up as a kid in Indiana did not end up being the feel-good story it was framed to be when the season began.
“Like I’ve said before, you just keep going”, Samardzija said.
The Royals, who have lost four of their last five, fell behind 3-0 after Adam Eaton drove a two-run homer into the right-field bullpen off Cueto (10-13) in the fifth inning. The two solo shots, which snapped a 17-inning scoreless drought for the Royals, were the only offense Kansas City could muster.
The two baseballs were crushed, one in the seventh inning and one in the eighth, both probably destined to become game-tying hits until the gloves of the White Sox defenders intervened.
The Kansas City Royals announced there will be a special “Take the Crown” postseason rally at Kauffman Stadium on Tuesday, October 6. Samardzija gave up eight hits, walked none and struck out three to win back-to-back starts for the first time since late July.
“I’m seeing a few pretty good at-bats, really”, Yost said.
David Robertson pitched the ninth inning for Chicago, which added a run in the eighth on Alexei Ramirez’s RBI double, to earn his 33rd save in 40 opportunities.
The White Sox took a 1-0 lead in the third inning. There are just five games to play.
After a two-out single put speedy shortstop Alcides Escobar on first, Royals second baseman Ben Zobrist hit a line drive to the gap in left-center field.
Jeff Samardzija’s last start of the season is not only in the books, it is expected to be his last outing ever with the Chicago White Sox.
Chicago White Sox’s Jose Abreu hits an RBI single off Kansas City Royals pitcher Johnny Cueto, scoring Carlos Sanchez, during the third inning of a baseball game Tuesday, September 29, 2015, in Chicago. “Just go up the middle and get a good swing, and stay with it”. He pinch-hit on Monday. Edinson Volquez (13-9, 3.65 ERA) will be looking for his first win since September 8 after losing two of his last three starts. He enters Tuesday night with an 0-7 record and 10.01 ERA in his last seven starts at U.S. Cellular Field.
