Gov. McCrory compares threat of rain followed by hurricane to deadly 1999

Public Safety Secretary Frank L. Perry said officials are preparing for widespread flooding in areas across the state.

As of Thursday afternoon, there are no evacuation orders. The center expected the storm to continue to grow, potentially developing sustained winds of 140 miles per hour.

The governor says the state is preparing resources to deal with the storm.

“I can not stress enough that are talking about the real possibility of deadly flooding in many areas around our state”, McCrory said.

There is still a lot uncertainty as to what degree the upper low and Joaquin will interact.

The flood watch begins Friday morning.

The weather service warned of landslides and of debris flowing in rivers and creeks across the mountains and foothills this weekend.
