Jeff Daniels, Michelle Williams head to Broadway in Blackbird
Michelle Williams has set her return to the Broadway stage in the new production of the play Blackbird.
Scott Rudin will produce the limited Broadway engagement, which begins previews February 5 at the Belasco Theatre in Los Angeles, officially opening on March 10.
Synopsis: “Blackbird explores the relationship between the middle-aged Ray and the now 27-year-old Una”. The two last encountered each other 15 years earlier, when Ray was taken into custody following their illegal sexual affair. “Now she’s found him again”.
First produced at the 2005 Edinburgh global Festival, the drama transferred to London’s West End the following year, winning the 2007 Olivier Award for best new play. In 2007 the drama got its New York premiere at Manhattan Theatre Club in a production starring Daniels and Allison Pill, directed by Joe Mantello.
Blackbird’s creative team includes Scott Pask (scenic design), Ann Roth (costume design), and Brian MacDevitt (lighting design). He also has a total of four Golden Globe nominations. Daniels’ film resume includes Dumb and Dumber, The Purple Rose of Cairo, The Squid and the Whale, The Hours, Good Night and Good Luck and Terms of Endearment.
Daniels is a Tony Award nominee for his role opposite Hope Davis, James Gandolfini, and Marcia Gay Harden in 2009’s God of Carnage; Williams most recently made her Broadway debut as Sally Bowles in Roundabout’s revival of Cabaret in 2014.
Williams has been nominated for Academy Awards three times, including once for her performance as Marilyn Monroe in “My Weekend With Marilyn”.
