Patient dies, 3 hurt when ambulance, car collide head-on
He was already in cardiac arrest when firefighters arrived on-scene, Pasadena Fire Department spokeswoman Lisa Derderian said.
An ambulance operated by a private company was taking a man in his 70s to a non-emergency doctor’s appointment when the vehicle was involved in a collision with a four-door Jaguar sedan, the lieutenant said.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. He succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
An ambulance carrying a patient crashed head-on with another vehicle in Pasadena, California, on Saturday, leaving the patient dead and three other people injured, police said.
A woman in her 60s who was driving the other vehicle, suffered an injury, possibly a broken foot, Carrillo said.
Carrillo says the ambulance driver and his passenger were taken to the hospital in stable condition.
The ambulance was heading south and the Jaguar was heading north when the crash took place, he added.
Drivers were advised to avoid Fair Oaks Avenue between Hammond and Mountain streets as police investigated.
