Prime Minister Koirala urges president to initiate process to form next government

He issued the call after Prime Minister Koirala met the Head of the State, requesting him to begin procedures to elect the new prime minister and form a new government as per the new Constitution of Nepal. But sources say Koirala is not keen to step down and wants to lead the new government, too.

Koirala sought to calm protestors on Friday, urging for an end to the demonstrations and calling for changes to the government that would address every group’s rights, German news agency DPA reported.

However, the appointment of Oli as the next Prime Minister might be a problem for India because of his apparent dismay towards India’s reaction to the adoption of constitution by Nepal.

He went to the President’s official residence in Sheetal Niwas soon after the meeting.

Reportedly, Sushil Koirala might try for the post of President after the resignation of current President Ram Baran Yadav.

In his speech, Koirala invited the agitating parties to come to the table for talks. “I call on the parties to resolve the dispute through dialogue”.

KP Oli, who is tipped to be the next prime minister, yesterday said: “India should not impose undeclared blockade in the name of dissatisfaction expressed by a few political parties and some political leaders (on the new Constitution)”.

He said the blockade of all the entry points to Nepal due to the strike in Tarai-Madhes have halted the import and export, crippling the daily life of people across the nation.

However, the Sashastra Seema Bal on the Indian side and Nepal Police on the other ensured that the Madhesis are not allowed to continue their agitation on the border. “I see the need for us to become cautious to avert the situation whereby the ongoing agitation would affect our social harmony, country’s capability and global relations”, said the prime minister.

The government has formed a team headed by forest minister Mahesh Acharya and informal talks have already started with the agitating Madhesi groups.
