Families, friends grieve for Oregon college massacre victims
Lucero Alcaraz, 19, was one of the nine people killed yesterday in a mass shooting incident at the Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, OR.
Oregon Sen. Jeff Merkley, on Friday at a news conference, said that one of the victims is a distant relative.
“The other day he looked at me and hugged me and said, ‘Mom, how long have you been waiting for one of your kids to go to college?’ and I said, ‘Oh, about 20 years.'” Engel also shared her son’s last words to her “Love ya”, he had said.
“His family says that he will be loved and missed”.
Levine, a native New Yorker, had published articles in fly fishing magazines and had written more than one unpublished novel, a friend, who asked not to be named, told Reuters.
Quinn Cooper, had just begun his fourth day at the college in Roseburg, Ore., his family wrote in a statement given to police. He just graduated in June from Roseburg High School. Quinn is kind and amusing and compassionate. Our lives are shattered beyond fix.
Victims families have begun releasing statements about their loved ones.
“Our whole family has been rocked by this tragedy and we are all still reeling”, Carnes’ cousin, Lisa Crawford, wrote on Facebook. In the photos, from left, are Quinn Cooper, 18, Lucas Eibel, 18, center, and Jason Johnson, 34.
“I don’t know how we are going to move forward with our lives”.
Mintz tried to block the gunman from entering the classroom, but was shot three times, his aunt said.
A statement by his family says that Eibel, who was studying chemistry, loved Future Farmers of America and volunteering at Wildlife Safari and Saving Grace animal shelter.
“We have been trying to figure out how to tell everyone how awesome Lucas was, but that would take 18 years”, his parents wrote. U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Oregon, said that Carnes is the great-granddaughter of his first cousin.
Dietz was from a small town north of London in England and regaled those at the vineyard with her family’s history in England around World War I. “Every heart is damaged and broken and this community is coming together to embrace each other to exercise the companionship, the love, the affection”.
Their daughter is a student at the college but was unharmed in Thursday’s shooting, according to the post.
Older students, like 59-year old Kim Saltmarsh Dietz, 33-year old Jason Dale Johnson, and 44-year old Sarena Dawn Moore, were also shot to death, along with 67-year old Lawrence Levine, the instructor.
