Plane diverted to Boston because of unruly passenger
A Mexico City-bound Aeromexico flight traveling from New York’s John F. Kennedy global Airport was diverted to Houston on Tuesday afternoon after a passenger became unruly.
Authorities say a male passenger was reportedly being disruptive and several other passengers restrained him. The captain was alerted to the disturbance and decided to request a flight diversion.
Massachusetts State Police responded to the incident, pulling up to the gate after the flight arrived at Logan. The man was then escorted off the plane by state police.
After Halliwell was arrested, the plane continued on to Houston.
Halliwell was charged with interfering with a flight crew. Additional charges related to the alleged assault are possible.
Britain’s Daily Mail identified the woman as Halliwell’s wife.
Massachusetts state police said troopers arrested 48-year-old Darren Halliwell, of Aspull, Wigan, Manchester, at around noon yesterday.
Halliwell allegedly assaulted a woman who was travelling with him, sources said.
A British man forced a passenger plane to make an emergency landing after he allegedly started assaulting his wife in mid air.
The flight was set to continue on to Houston after refueling.
