Sorority “Selfie” Girls Decline Free Baseball Tickets, Ask to Donate to
Smile, or pose or whatever you want.
Apparently, announcers Steve Berthiaume and Bob Brenly had enough of seeing the young women taking photos of themselves while eating churros and hot dogs and chose to have a few fun of their own – by making fun of them. You see, people like to kick and scream about this sort of activity, even though it harms no one.
– The Major League Baseball announcers during the Arizona Diamondbacks-Colorado Rockies game on Wednesday were thoroughly entertained by a group of Arizona State sorority girls have a full-fledged selfie session in the stands.
In a statement posted to Facebook, Alpha Chi Omega stated that its members declined the offer, and asked that tickets be given to an organization that provides domestic violence services instead. They took over the Diamondbacks’ official Snapchat account, but more importantly they were offered free tickets to Thursday night’s game by Fox Sports.
As stupid as this whole “controversy” is (and it’s pretty darn stupid), this is certainly a commendable act on the part of the sorority, which is doing its part to contribute to Domestic Violence Awareness month in October. All proceeds will go directly to A New Leaf to help struggling Arizona families get back on their feet by providing housing, food, childcare and more. We are happy to have the opportunity to shed a few positive light on such a sensitive subject.
Look, we don’t really know anything about baseball, but if it’s anything like cricket, there’s a lot of downtime.
Great work, Alpha Chi Omega decision-makers.
