HTC announces which devices will get Android Marshmallow, starts rollout this year
As for the handsets that will be receiving Android 6.0 Marshmallow via OTA updates, the list is of course topped by the One M9 and the One M8. The Taiwanese electronics maker is scheduling a grand event next month that might see the unveiling of a new smartphone. The smartphone in question could most probably be the widely leaked HTC One A9.
The company will hold a virtual event on October 20 where it invites the media to “Meet the Marshmallow from HTC“. This doesn’t include any HTC phones, but this does mean that Google’s Android 6.0 code will go to the Android Open Source Project, and manufacturers like Samsung, LG, and HTC can start prepping updates for their devices.
In addition, Gospel Herald said there is still no confirmation from HTC about the specifications of the device but noted that it could sport a Quad HD or 1080p display with Gorilla Glass 4 and 2.5D curved edges. According to the site, however, the information is trustworthy although it does not come with a 100% guarantee on accuracy.
HTC is planning something “brilliant’ on October. 20”. It is also likely that a few of Sony’s lower end handsets, like the Xperia M4 Aqua will be getting Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
Most of the Android smartphones these days are reeling from the so-called Stagefright bug.
HTC has been struggling in recent times due to the poor sales that their recent devices have achieved.
“We’re roasting marshmallows this fall!” Rumors had it that at this particular event HTC will unveil the new HTC Aero A9, the new HTC Butterfly 3 and possibly the HTC M9e. Rogers is also planning to release a Stagefright fix for the Z30’s Android player.
