Mariners’ Cano to undergo hernia surgery October. 13
Robinson Cano has been diagnosed with a sports hernia that he has been dealing with for more than two months; the surgery to fix it will be done in Philadelphia, followed by six weeks of recovery time.
Cano, who turns 33 on October. 22, suffered the injury on July 22, but has been able to play through it (and play well) during the second half of the regular season.
Robinson Cano will undergo surgery for a sports hernia injury he sustained on July 28. “It’s one of those conditions athletes can play with for a few time if they’re comfortable enough, and at a few point we usually perform surgery to fix it”.
Erick Aybar singled on the first pitch of the game, advancing on Pujols’ single before scoring on C.J. Cron’s hit for a 1-0 lead off Rangers left-hander Martin Perez.
On September 23 at Kansas City, he got his 2,000th hit, the 14th player in history – and first second baseman – to reach that milestone in his first 11 seasons. 285 with 20 home runs and 76 RBIs in 153 games entering Friday.
“I always take four to six weeks where I don’t do anything”, he said before Friday’s game against Oakland at Safeco Field.
“Robbie’s been playing with this and he’s playing very well”. So his timetable will not depart much from his usual offseason routine. “Now we’ll go get surgery and go back to Spring Training and don’t have to worry about anything”. “Everything is going to be normal, starting at the same time”. Ive just got to be careful after the surgery. I’m not supposed to lift anything heavy.
He is in the second year of a 10-year, $240 million deal with the Mariners. Cano said. “I love to be out there”.
But Perez then retired 19 of the last 21 batters he faced, issuing a two-out walk to Trout in the third and allowing a two-out single to Aybar in the fifth.
Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon had said he would try to find off-days for Cano and Nelson Cruz, who missed a week in early September with a right quad injury, in series without playoff implications toward the end of the season. “I love to be out there”.
