NCAA bans SMU from postseason, suspends Larry Brown

Student Lori Landes says, “I just wonder why they’re picking on SMU”.

Though the NCAA said that Brown had “no direct knowledge” of the assistant coach completing the player’s homework, it said he failed to handle the situation appropriately.

The NCAA report said Maligi encouraged Frazier to enroll in an online course needed to gain academic entry. He then was asked, “You didn’t order her to do that?” and said, “Absolutely not”. Brown has been charged with lack of head coach control and suspended for the first nine games of the season, per ESPN. SMU looks like a potential top 25 team so the school will likely appeal the ban in an effort to play in the 2016 postseason. Maligi took a leave of absence in the middle of last season and reportedly refused to cooperate with investigators. “I have nothing to be ashamed of in any of those cases”. Brown told reporters he has no plans on resigning and he has “a lot of kids in that locker room that count on me”.
