Russian Airstrikes Helping Syria Wipe Out Terrorists
The value of political negotiations over Syria is questionable and airstrikes against militants are useless if they are not coordinated with the Syrian government, Foreign Minister Walid al-Moualem said on Friday.
“Terrorism can not be overcome only from the air, and all previous attempts to overcome it have only led to its spread”. The Syrian army had already been joined by fighters from Lebanon’s Shiite Hezbollah group and other Iranian-backed militias.
The U.N.’s envoy to Syria, Staffan de Mistura, has proposed four working groups on Syria as part of his latest efforts to bring Syria’s parties together toward a long-elusive agreement to end the conflict.
Muallem emphasized the determination of Syrians in the fight against terrorism, saying the nation’s armed forces are capable of cleansing the country of Takfiri terrorist groups.
‘I would like to announce here that Syria agrees to participate in the four brainstorming committees of experts proposed by the special envoy Staffan de Mistura, ‘ said Muallem.
De Mistura has said the working groups could be a step toward a “Syrian-owned framework document” that would provide for a transitional governing body, procedures for national dialogue, a constitution drafting process and transitional justice issues.

“At the same time, my government is cooperating with the United Nations and its humanitarian agencies within the framework of response plans agreed upon with the Syrian government, to meet the basic needs of the citizens, especially those forced by the terrorist acts to flee their homes, and many of whom have resorted to a few neighboring countries,” he said.
World leaders also tried to address the crises in Libya and Yemen with high-level meetings on Friday.
“Only then we can begin the countdown to the end of war in Syria, until we get to the final quarter- hour, and open the doors to implement what is agreed upon on the political track,” he said.
Kafando pledged that free and transparent elections will be organized “shortly”.
