NFL Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan, worth US$5.6 billion, founded auto parts maker Flex-N-Gate, which had sales of US$4.45 billion past year.
Robert F. Smith, 52, co-founder of private equity firm Vista Equity Partners, was the third Austin resident to make the list.
It was harder than ever to join The 400.
Denise York, owner of the NFL San Francisco 49ers, made the list for the first time as the club s value soared an NFL-best 69 percent to $2.7 billion with the opening of a new home stadium next year. Previous year it took $1.55 billion to make the cut. Mark Shoen, a 63-year-old major shareholder of Amerco, the parent of U-Haul global, is next at $4.6 billion.
Like death and taxes, Bill Gates topping the list is a given: The Microsoft mogul was the richest American for a mind-bending 22nd consecutive year at $76 billion. His friend Warren Buffett, chief executive of Berkshire Hathaway, occupies the number two spot on The 400 (he’s been ensconced there since 2001), with a net worth of $62 billion. And Larry Page, CEO of Google, moved from number 13 in 2014 to land the 10th spot, with $US33.3 billion. In terms of upward movement, Uber founder Travis Kalanick gained the most fortune in the past year.
Her father, Edward Johnson III, the former CEO of Fidelity, came in at No. 59 with $7.8 billion to his name. This isnt to say that the billionaires on the list dont have sizable equity investments. Just 25 years old, the Stanford University graduate cofounded mobile messaging app SnapChat with Bobby Murphy, also a newcomer.
Ballmer paid $2 billion to purchase the Clippers from disgraced Donald Sterling, who was forced to sell the team by the National Basketball Association after racist remarks.
Mohawk CEO Jeffrey Lorberbaum is among the richest Americans, according to Forbes annual listing of the 400 wealthiest Americans.
