Twitter considering expansion of character limit
Twi-tter is finally waking up to the idea that a few things just can not be summed up in 140 characters. The micro-blogging website operator is working on a new product that will allow users to share tweets longer than 140 characters, technology website Re/code reported on Tuesday.
Reinvention of this feature had been something which challenged the fundamental feature of the social media site. How do you feel about this, Twitter users? There still has been no official from the company’s spokesperson. Currently, the company has been trying to find out new ways to expand its user base.
The final version isn’t set, but a few at twitter are reportedly in favor of raising the limit by ten or so characters.
For example, links and user handles may no longer count against the limit. Once Twitter attracts more engaged users, the platform will benefit from brands wanting to advertise. Plus, Twitter added a “retweet with comment” option back in April to give more room for commenting on their tweets.
“People have been very precious at Twitter about what Twitter can be and how much it can be evolved”. “Having Jack come in and say it’s OK makes all the difference in the world”. Increasing the character limit has been discussed at Twitter for years, more so in recent months under Dorsey, sources told Re/code.
Since the beginning, Twitter has always been defined by short, 140 character messages and not a single letter longer.
