Gabriel appeals for calm ahead of Arsenal v Manchester United
Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal does not mind that he will not have the longevity in one job that Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson have enjoyed.
Asked how he thought the Gunners would be affected on Sunday by the defeat in Europe, the United boss told MUTV: “That I don’t know of course – I am not there, I am here and we are happy”.
“I think Arsenal will be there competing for the title until the end and it is up to us to make a statement on Sunday”.
“It is easy to say that, but with Arsene Wenger, when you are such a long time with one club and everybody is satisfied – the fans, the board, the players – then you are very good, believe me”.
After another consecutive win over Wolfsburg, United come into the match in good form whereas Arsenal are under pressure following their shock defeat to Olympiacos.
Wenger, whose Arsenal side host table-topping United in the Barclays Premier League on Sunday, became their manager 19 years ago this week and Ferguson was in charge of the Red Devils from 1986 to 2013.
Schweinsteiger will play a crucial role if he starts against Arsenal because their attack is fluid, dynamic and always creates chances.
“It (being top) is a great boost for us and it raises a few eyebrows”, Jones said.
“When we were winning games, it was never enough goals – it was 4-0, we should have won 10-0″. You come always with that same story… you can put the goalkeeper you want in the goal, he can make a mistake, you have to accept that. “They are there to make judgemental comments”.
“With Arsenal getting beaten in the midweek game, and United winning, they will of course have the momentum and are top of the league”, he said.
The 23-year-old England worldwide has been eased into his comeback from thrombosis, making substitute appearances in each of United’s last three games.
“I help him with advice, demands and training sessions, and by showing images to improve him“.
“That is hard to answer because I have won a lot of titles”, said the Dutchman, a champion with the likes of Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
“I like the style of football he plays, it is the passing and moving game which is very attractive”.
