5-star hoops recruit Miles Bridges commits to MSU — Breaking News
Prior to the trip, Kentucky and the Spartans were thought to be engaged in a close battle for Bridges, but Michigan State was viewed as the favorite entering Saturday, in part because of his “positive” experience in East Lansing.
Bridges has returned home to Flint to announce his school of choice during a press conference at Mott Community College’s Ballenger Field House.
Huntington Prep’s Miles Bridges picks the Spartans.
Bridges, a 6-foot-7 forward from Flint, Mich. who plays at Huntington Prep (W.Va.), chose the Spartans over Kentucky and Indiana. Michigan State coaches did an awesome job recruiting me since my eighth grade year. He shone at the circuit’s marquee event, the Peach Jam, averaging over 23 points and 10 rebounds, and drew attention this spring and summer for a series of violent dunks.
Expect Bridges to slot in for Denzel Valentine when he arrives on campus next fall.
On the other hand, Izzo’s NCAA-best six Final Fours since 2000-seven overall-may have influenced Bridges. Mateen Cleaves, Charlie Bell, Morris Peterson – all from Flint, Michigan – helped lead Michigan State to the 2000 national championship.
Not only does Izzo add the second five-star prospect to this 2016 class, he also has put together the No. 1 group in the nation with one piece of the puzzle left to fill in – five-star shooting guard Josh Jackson.
“It’s only 45 minutes away from my home and they are one of the first schools to recruit me”, Bridges told ESPN.com in July when asked about Michigan State.
Bridges joins five-star combo-guard Josh Langford, four-star point guard Cassius Winston and four-star power forward Nick Ward as the members of Izzo’s illustrious class and this will go down as the head coach’s biggest recruiting victory in quite a few time – if not ever.
