‘The day the bees attacked!’ Deputy trapped on interstate when swarm of
Upwards of a million bees were released in Garvin County, after a tractor trailer hauling them from the north, overturns.
An Oklahoma police officer has faced a nervous wait after thousands of bees swarmed his vehicle, trapping him inside.
Many beekeepers – who work on a contract basis – live a semi-nomadic lifestyle, often transporting the bees long distances to reach farmers.
“Oh, gosh, I’d even be afraid to guess – jillions and jillions”, Steve Chronister from P&M Wrecker Service, said of the loose bees.
He told KOKH: “There is a bee shortage”.
Crews on scene report a few bee stings while out in the field – so far it’s unclear how many people have been stung as a result of the accident.
“The bees will swarm up to 10 miles away a few of them in groups”.
Oklahoma Highway patrol troopers were dispatched to Interstate 35 just south of Pauls Valley in Garvin County at around 1 p.m.
