Aldo pulls out of UFC 189 with rib injury

Featherweight champion Jose Aldo suffered a rib injury during training, and the extent of the damage was unclear. In it, Aldo has some sharp words for McGregor and his new opponent Chad Mendes, who will be competing for an interim title in his absence.

But this fight will not be happening in Brazil as both Mendes and McGregor on the Wednesday’s (July 1, 2015) media conference call have declared that they will not give Aldo the home advantage.

I must admit, I am not fully sure if I “get” the Conor McGregor UFC fighting phenomenon.

Jose Aldo pulled out of the planned clash due to injury.

“Andre Pederneiras, his coach, called and basically said that Aldo’s rib is too painful, and he will not be fighting”, he said.

The 28-year-old UFC Featherweight Champion opted to pull out of the fight after he injured his rib while training for the match last week. Is McGregor as good as his believers profess him to be? Mendes held, “If for whatever reason Conor wins, I’d like to get in there and beat the crap out of that guy and take the belt”. That’s why I can’t agree with UFC’s decision to have an interim champion in my division citing the five opportunities that I couldn’t defend my belt.

Well, Jose Aldo has just broken his silence.

And there you have it. Clearly Aldo hasn’t changed his opinion of McGregor in the last couple of weeks… This is just another day at the office for me.

McGregor added, “I mean, the medical records state he is fit to fight, so there’s no more questions”. Ex- light heavyweight champion Jon Jones shutdown a UFC event because of his refusal to take a fight under similar circumstances. “And that’s what I’m looking to do when I get in there against Conor McGregor“. Now the #1 contender Chad Mendes will face McGregor for the interim title.

“I certainly know he would not want to step into my world”. The early indications are that the Brazilian will be back in action in the autumn, so a fight against the victor of Mendes versus McGregor is expected to happen late this year.
