Missouri: Maty Mauk Suspended For Saturday For “Disciplinary Reasons”
When the University of Missouri hosts South Carolina on Saturday they will be without starting quarterback Maty Mauk.
He completed 12 of 34 passes for 132 yards in that game.
Bill Connelly of Rock M Nation writes that Lock represents something different for Missouri-potential. Cuellar, a junior, is a reserve player who was listed on Missouri’s secondary lineup against Kentucky last week.
Pinkel compared the decision to suspend Mauk to his 2012 suspension of star defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson, who missed a game for “an academic issue”.
Lock’s interception percentage (4.00) is also slightly higher than Mauk’s (3.64) but, again, sample size.
Arkansas State expects to be without senior quarterback Fredi Knight for at least one more week.
According to the statement, neither Mauk nor Cuellar will be available for Saturday’s game against South Carolina. Mauk was with his family in Springfield, Mo., during the procedure. Mauk has scored 1.65 points per possession, Lock 1.43. Lock could have been redshirted this season, but head coach Gary Pinkel stated back in August that Lock won’t redshirt because he could help the team, according to Jacob Bogage of the Columbia Missourian. His 145 yards on the ground are second-best on the team.
Moore won’t get a chance to get a hit in on Mauk. “We just kind of put it out when he comes in here, but if he wants to talk about it outside, we’ll openly talk about it obviously”.
“Maty’s going through a few personal things, and that’s hard in terms of that”, he said. “We understand that. It does get frustrating”.
“Their other quarterback is a good player”, Spurrier said of Lock. We’ll just have to wait and see. If Mauk is cleared to play, this raises another question – Who will be the starting quarterback moving forward?
