Forbes 400 list reveiled, Bill Gates tops richest Americans for 22nd time
Forbes’ annual list of the richest Americans was released Tuesday, revealing which 400 people are the country’s wealthiest, and it was a good year to be in technology.
Trump, who has repeatedly made his vast monetary success a major selling point of his 2016 presidential run, filed campaign documents that his net worth is more than $10 billion. Amazon’s Jeff Bezos jumped to no. 4 from no. 15 a year ago. He’s 21st overall on the Forbes ranking of the 400 richest Americans.
Ranked No. 375 with an estimated net worth of $1.8 billion is former Houston Astros owner Drayton McLane, a Temple resident. Past year it took $1.55 billion to make the cut.
“Charles Dolan agreed to sell his TV company Cablevision to French billionaire Patrick Drahi’s Altice for $17.7 billion in September 2015 – the crowning achievement for a guy who got his start cutting sports highlight reels for TV stations around his native Cleveland”. Total wealth is $2.34 trillion, up from $2.29 trillion in 2014. Larry Ellison, a Bay Area billionaire, ranked in third with a net worth of $47.5 billion. Trump would arrive on the list again as a billionaire for the first time only five years later, but his wild claims about his personal wealth have been dogged by accusations of exaggeration and hyperbole for years.
The richest National Football League owners after Allen include the Rams’ relocation-minded Stan Kroenke ($7.6 billion), Dolphins owner Stephen Ross ($6.7 billion) – a Michigan booster and real estate developer involved with New York’s Hudson Yards project – the Jaguars’ Shahid Khan ($5.6 billion), Cowboys impresario Jerry Jones ($5 billion) and Patriots boss Robert Kraft ($4.8 billion). And because the bar is so high, 145 US billionaires failed to make it to the list.
These seven Arizonans are included in this year’s Forbes 400 list of wealthiest Americans. Their combined net worth at the time was half a billion dollars.
Khan is the richest Southwest Floridian, according to Forbes. That’s also where you can find more information on list members, including additional photos, videos and coverage of these influential billionaires. Luisa Kroll, the magazine’s assistant managing editor of wealth, said that because of his constant fame in the limelight, they “couldn’t resist giving him the honorary spot”.
