San Diego Padres’ Matt Kemp drives in run during the third inning…
■ Though rightfielder Ryan Braun is shut down and awaiting surgery on a herniated disc in his lower back, he is remaining with the team to continue undergoing physical therapy with the athletic training staff. The thinking is that the more Braun builds up the muscles around that damaged disc, the quicker his rehab will go following the surgery. Physically, I feel pretty good.

He limited the Chicago Cubs to two hits over six shutout innings in a 4-1 victory last Wednesday. He was named the Southern League Pitcher of the Year and the Brewers’ Minor League Pitcher of the Year.

Despite raised expectations and a big roster overhaul by new general manager AJ Preller, the Friars will finish with their fifth straight losing season.
Jean Segura would lead the Brewers going 2-for-4 with a run and 3 RBI’s. Speaking about his 100 RBIs, Kemp said: “I’d rather have 80 RBIs and go to the playoffs”.
