Interim CEO Dorsey Could Become Permanent Head of Twitter — Twitter CEO
Twitter‘s stock price continues to decline. Mark Zuckerberg’s social network recently announced that one in seven people on Earth had logged in on a single day.
According to the technology news website, Re/Code, Jack Dorsey is expected to step up as the permanent CEO of Twitter (NYSE:TWTR). The change in command came amid slowing user growth that exacerbated investor concerns about the Twitter’s ability to become more accessible to a wider audience. You may use Square as your online payment site of choice. To prevent long updates being split over several texts and statuses, the Twitter team capped the characters at 140, leaving space for a 20-character user name.
Bumps in the roadTo Dorsey’s credit, he didn’t try to sidestep Twitter’s biggest problem when he shared its Q2 earnings news: growing its monthly active user (MAU) base.
Twitter stock rallied more than 5 percent Wednesday, but shares are still in bear market territory.
Citi’s Mr. May said that if Mr. Dorsey is named CEO, he would take a “generally positive view given that his product-focused approach and deep knowledge of the company could help accelerate the rate of product innovation”.
Dorsey will likely face fire when Square begins its road show, the period of pitching to investors and fund managers leading up to the public offering, sources say.
That has since been scaled back, although Kara Swischer writes that this is more to do with other executive appointments such revenue chief Adam Bain and CFO Anthony Noto.
He returned to Twitter as executive chairman in 2011 after Williams was replaced as CEO by Dick Costolo.
But the news raised questions over whether Dorsey could run both companies at the same time, and whether that would create a conflict of interest.
A dual CEO role may seem like a stretch, but it appears momentum is gathering to endorse Dorsey to do just that.
Although Twitter has not officially confirmed the move, Jack Dorsey is expected to return as Twitter CEO seven years after being fired from the same role.
A few investors mentioned that Dorsey was a better CEO than in 2008, when he was sacked from his stint as Twitter CEO.
