Great British Bake Off contestant Flora Shedden denied grand final place

Great British Bake Off semi-finalist Nadiya Jamir Hussain has revealed her mission to prove herself as a Briton and a baker.

First up, it’s the signature bake which sees the quartet asked to make chocolate tarts, including chocolate pastry.

Nadiya grabs star baker and flutters into the Final.

His homegrown bay leaves mixed into a caramel infused tart left Paul disappointed in the “king of flavour” though.

The nerves are jangling and Ian, Flora, Tamal and Nadiya attempt the judges’ tasks with the nation’s favourite sweet treat.

Flora has made a passion fruit curd, but thinks she’s over baked it, and true to form, bungs it in the freezer. “From an early age my mother and grandmother influenced me to bake starting with something simple like pancakes and fairycakes”, she explained.

The technical challenge of chocolate soufflés begins in a tantalisingly brilliant manner as their starts are staggered.

Luckily for her, neither had the others, with the normally cool and calm Ian experiencing a major meltdown and mind blank over Mary’s mysterious recipe.

On average, 10 million people tuned in to see 19-year-old Flora Shedden leave the show after her showstopper cocoa carousel failed to win over the judges.

But forget about Flora being knocked out, all anybody could talk about was the face Ian was still in it after Chocolate Week. “She and my grandmother have been a great inspiration”. Flora comes out on top and Nadiya slops in at the bottom, but they are all so close, I don’t suppose this will make much of a difference to their positions going into showstopper day. “It’s just not coming together”, she complained during the challenge.

It’s unlikely to be the end of the young baker’s career in the spotlight though as experts predict she could be on course for a £150,000-a year career. And building on this profile could be the key to her future success.

The teenager has now started a degree in art history at the University of St Andrews, having worked at an art gallery near her Perthshire home in Scotland during filming.
