Women’s World Cup victors honored with rally in Los Angeles

Early estimates suggest this year’s final was the most-watched soccer match in USA television history, for either men or women, with Twenty-First Century Fox’ (FOXA)Fox network hitting a peak of 22.86 million viewers during the broadcast.

Two women’s soccer leagues have already failed in this country and the current one, the NWSL, averages only about 4,400 spectators a game.

The Women’s World Cup final between the US and Japan drew a record US audience for a soccer game carried by a single network, according to preliminary Nielsen ratings released by Fox.

By comparison, the recent National Basteball Association Finals on ABC peaked with 23.25 million viewers for its sixth and final game. After scoring the majority of the goals against Japan during the World Cup, she alone is a good enough reason as to why women deserve to receive equal pay.

Last year, the US men’s national soccer team, which failed in its bid to make it to the finals of the World Cup, was paid $9 million in prize money, according to Reuters.
