Bangladesh cricketer Shahadat Hossain’s wife arrested

Confirming the news, police inspector Shafiqur Rahman said that Nritto had been arrested from her parent’s house while they are still searching for Shahadat, the Express Tribune reported.

Hossain, 29, and his wife Nritto Shahadat were last month accused of torturing their maid and a case was lodged against them under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

The pace bowler of Bangladesh national team, Shahadat Hossain and her wife was blamed for torturing their maidservant Mahfuza Akter Happy on 6 September.

Later in the evening the maid was rescued from city’s Pallabi area and taken to Mirpur Police Station.

Earlier, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) banned the paceman from all forms of cricket until the charges against him and his wife are settled, saying that the reports of the couple torturing a minor were “utterly embarrassing”.

Haque later filed the case.

“We are trying hard to arrest Shahadat”, the DC said.

Shahadat, who played 38 Tests and 51 one-day internationals for Bangladesh, missed out on the recent series against India and South Africa after twisting his ankle during a Test match against Pakistan in May.
