Beckham and Ferguson set for Old Trafford reunion

Monday marks 21 years to the day that Beckham made his full senior debut for Manchester United in a 2-0 win over Port Vale at Old Trafford.

Sir Alex Ferguson is returning to the Old Trafford dugout next month to manage David Beckham and a host of other stars in a charity match.

Beckham has revealed that he personally requested the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson to manage Great Britain and Ireland XI.

The match will take place on Saturday 14 November.

Beckham retired from professional football in 2012, having played for Manchester United, Real Madrid, Los Angeles Galaxy, AC Milan and Paris St Germain. All the money raised from ticket sales will be donated to UNICEF – and no-one is prouder of David for his participation than his wife Victoria Beckham.

The pair is being reunited two years after Ferguson used his autobiography to bemoan an apparent preoccupation with fame by Beckham and how it affected his work-rate before being sold to Madrid.

During David Beckham’s illustrious career he won 19 major trophies including league titles in four different countries and 115 appearances for England makes him the national teams most capped outfield player.

He also added: “This match gives me the flawless opportunity to raise awareness and vital funds to help reach the children who need it most“.

“It’s an unbelievable thing to have him involved in his”. “He’s like a father figure to me”, Beckham told BBC Radio 1.

“But we’ve got a lot of young players finding their way, but doing great jobs, and I think the manager, and obviously Ryan Giggs in there as well, it’s an important time but I think it’s a good time at the moment”.

“He could be a top manager”.

The former Manchester United boss will be taking to the touchline for the first time since he left the theatre of dreams in 2013. “Carlo Ancelotti is the (manager) of that team as well and I can’t believe it, but Sir Alex Ferguson is the (manager) of my team”.

“Me, Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes all said the same thing, we all hid the glass of wine behind our back”.

“If you look at the time I was at United, for 27 years, I had a few fantastic players, a few great players”. It’s like when I was a kid – my mum would be the strict one but then, all of a sudden, if my dad had to get involved, I knew I was in trouble.
