Blue Bell Ice Cream returning to Oklahoma
“Now that we are also producing ice cream at our facility in Broken Arrow, we want to be fair and make sure that we included Tulsa and Oklahoma City as well”, said Blue Bell spokesperson, Jenny Dorf.
Phase 2 two includes the northern counties of the Brazos Valley such as Milam, Robertson and Madison Countines.
The second phase of Blue Bell Creameries’ market re-entry process begins on November 2 and includes Central Texas. “This support, coupled with our current production capacity, has slowed our ability to enter additional distribution areas”.
Blue Bell ice cream is being made at company plants in Broken Arrow, Okla., and Sylacauga, Ala. The decision came after listeria illnesses were linked to the ice cream business.
For now, just five flavors will be available in half-gallon and pint sizes- Buttered Pecan, Cookies ‘n Cream, Dutch Chocolate, Homemade Vanilla and The Great Divide.
The company says they plan to add more flavors in the future.
Since then, the ice cream plant has restarted production at a few of their plants and paired with Texas billionaire Sid Bass to help aid in the reboot of their company.
“Over time we will expand to drugstores and convenience stores”, a spokeswoman said.
All Blue Bell ice cream was recalled April 20 after a Listeria outbreak was found in its production lines and products.
Connie Yates, a spokeswoman for Safeway, which owns Tom Thumb and Albertsons, said it has analyzed traffic in Houston and it will be ready to meet the Blue Bell demand in North Texas.
There is no date set for other phases of the product rollout.
Twelve-pack Homemade Vanilla Cups and Homemade Vanilla and Dutch Chocolate Cups are also available. “We will have adequate staff on hand, and in the meantime, we’ll be reallocating our shelves to accommodate Blue Bell back in the market”.
Dickson said he doesn’t know when the next three phases of the plan will begin, so for the time being San Antonio will still have to wait for Blue Bell’s return.
