TN parties slam UNHRC resolution on Sri Lanka
He suggested that a fourth round of talks be arranged by associating fishermen from both countries, officials of the External Affairs Ministries of the two nations and officials of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry governments.
The 47-member United Nations Human Rights Council at the 30th session here had approved by consensus a crucial resolution led by USA and UK, and backed by Sri Lanka itself, a move hailed by worldwide advocacy groups. The UNHRC on Thursday allowed Sri Lanka to conduct the probe with the help of worldwide judges. “The resolution passed yesterday will in no way render justice to Sri Lankan Tamils”.
The resolution calls for establishment of a Sri Lankan Judicial Mechanism with a Special Counsel to investigate allegations of violations and abuses of human rights and violations of global humanitarian law during the final phase of the almost three decade-long brutal ethnic conflict that ended in military defeat of the LTTE in 2009. “If India is serious about getting justice for Eelam Tamils, it must have opposed the resolution”, said Ramadoss.
United States of America with its famous Asia pivot wants Sri Lanka to ignore the Chinese financial support. “This weak resolution adopted by perceiving a change of heart of the Srilankan government will not do any good to Srilankan Tamils”, she said.
On the other hand, the resolution adopted by the Tamil Nadu Assembly had echoed the expectations of Tamils across the globe and strengthened the resolutions adopted earlier by the Northern Provincial Council.
