Hope Solo will face domestic violence charges again after court reversal
In an espnW profile in June, Solo again denied assaulting anyone and spoke of her frustration with media coverage of the incident and how she has been portrayed: “From here on out, no matter what happens, I’ll forever be associated with domestic violence“.
In response to the reversal, Solo’s attorney, Todd Maybrown, said in a statement, “We are shocked and disappointed by the judge’s ruling this morning”. No, she didn’t get arrested again for domestic violence. The case was dismissed on procedural grounds in January as the case approached trial. But after the half-sister and her son failed to appear to give evidence to Solo’s lawyers on several occasions, the two charges of domestic violence in the fourth degree were thrown out. Superior Court Judge Douglass North heard arguments Friday morning, then reversed the decision of the lower court and sent the case back to Kirkland Municipal Court for trial, according to court records.

ESPN reported that the 31-year-old Washington state native initially told police that she was the victim. “So I came from behind her, and I pulled her over and, you know, to get her off my son”. This was followed within a week by anOutside the Lines report that portrayed exactly the opposite: it described a drunk Solo who repeatedly punched her nephew in his face and slammed it into the concrete of a converted garage before punching her half-sister in the face.
U.S. Soccer, for its part, stood by Solo during her initial brush with the law, arguing that she was innocent until proven guilty and had a right to be treated as such.
Solo was on the US team that won the Women’s World Cup in Canada this summer.
