Flushing elementary school receives Blue Ribbon distinction
The U.S. Department of Education says it chose the schools based on their overall academic excellence and their progress in closing achievement gaps.
Since 1982, the Department of Education has been giving Blue Ribbon awards each year to a select number of schools.
Middle College High School in Shelby County and Clovercroft Elementary and Ravenwood High, both in Williamson County, were honored for academic achievement.
The 10 Indiana schools are among 285 public and 50 private schools that will be recognized in a ceremony in Washington D.C., next month.
The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program “celebrates a few of the most skilled and effective educators in the country”. “The talented professionals at Mount Pleasant Elementary, Park Magnet, St. Vincent de Paul, Valley View Junior High and Vandergriff Elementary exemplify that high level of dedication to our children”.
U.S. Rep. Bruce Westerman, R-Hot Springs, said in a statement that Park Magnet School “is among the best schools in America”. Two lawmakers, Congressman Steve Womack and Senator John Boozman addressed a gymnasium full of students, congratulating them for their hard work.
