As fees and counter-costs of polarisation heated up with an eye fixed on the 2017 UP Assembly polls, the Chief Minister met in Lucknow the family of fifty-yr-previous Ikhlaq, who was lynched in Dadri over beef consuming rumours, assuring them of justice. After a two-hour meeting with family members of Ikhlaq, Yadav announced raising of financial assistance to Rs 30 lakh from Rs 20 lakh besides Rs 5 lakh each to his brothers.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh termed the lynching of a man in Dadri as “unfortunate” and said it should not be given any “communal colour”.

Slamming the state police for taking one-sided action, he said that it was actually Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi who are disturbing peace in the region. “A person like Owaisi was allowed to come here from Hyderabad”.

Akhilesh said his Samajwadi Party will “never do politics” on the issue.

Meanwhile, police, which has arrested eight persons, detained a Home Guard for questioning after the local temple priest alleged that he forced him to make the announcement. Is it not the weakness of the government? “They need to do politics of appeasement which we won’t permit”, the MLA stated.

Questioning the arrests in the lynching case, Som said, “We aren’t saying that those guilty of murder should not be tried but the government should stop framing the innocent”. “The allegations about my son are completely untrue”, Rana said.

Though the district administration has clamped section 144 at Bisara, both Som and a saffron outfit, Hindu Raksha Sena, managed to hold a “panchayat” in the village where they reportedly delivered provocative speeches. “So this is a matter on which all progressive, liberal and proper considering want to face collectively”, Congress chief Manish Tewari stated. “I have filed a complaint against the communal statements of Som. I hope the UP government will not only act against the Dadri killers but also hate-mongers like Som”, he said.

Kejriwal also praised the son of the murdered Iqlakh, who is an officer in the Indian Airforce. “We will also provide house, complete security and if required job to one family member of the family”.
