Thorbjorn Olesen wins Alfred Dunhill Links Championship
With a final-round 1-under-par 36-35=71 at St. Andrews, Thorbjørn Olesen secured his third European Tour title via a two-shot victory at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland. Holing that putt on the 15th gave me huge confidence that I could get the job done, and my lag putting on those big greens had been sharp all day, but I was also pleased with how I struck the ball and my game-management too.
Making his professional debut after winning all four of his matches in Great Britain and Ireland’s record Walker Cup win in September, Mullen had recovered from a bogey on the second with a birdie on the next.
Els carded a 66 at St Andrews and was able to laugh about suffering an attack of the dreaded “yips” over a short putt in his opening 72 at Carnoustie on Thursday.
He fired a solid one-under final round 71 to finish on 18-under for the tournament and is the first Danish player to win the prestigious event. “I started off badly by hitting it in the water on the first but I got over it and played a few good golf out there”, said the delighted Olesen.
Frenchman Benjamin Hebert holds down third place after 54 holes and is 13 under thanks to six birdies against just one bogey at Carnoustie.
“I have been playing golf a long time and haven’t got a clue anymore”, said Dredge, who carded two eagles and five birdies in a flawless round.

The 23-year-old Grillo had a 13-under 197 total on TPC Sawgrass’ Dye’s Valley Course. If I was not a member of the tour, then I could never play the Ryder Cup again. Heading into the lucrative Pro-Am affair, he was languishing down in 124th on the circuit’s money list and facing a nail-nibbling fight to save his tour card.
Furyk was replaced by J.B. Holmes on the American team.
“You’re always focusing on the Race to Dubai, but I thought it was always going to be a good effort to keep my card”. “I tested the wrist pretty hard yesterday to see how it would respond and it’s not 100 percent healed”. But Pablo (Larrazabal) helped me along and the two amateurs we were playing with, Miguel (Duenas) and my partner, Pascal (Alfaro) are just really nice guys.
Furyk pulled out of the BMW Championship during the first round because of a deep bone bruise in his left wrist. Furyk will be there as one of four USA assistants.
