At UN, Netanyahu Silently Glared for 44 Seconds

Supporters of the Israeli prime minister watched the speech from the wings of the United Nations General Assembly hall, bursting into applause when Netanyahu condemned the deal and vowed to ensure Iran didn’t obtain a nuclear weapon.

Hamas, which rules Gaza, called on Abbas to end all agreements with Israel, but a deep divide has thwarted political reconciliation between the two territories, each led by its respective group.

Offering more concrete suggestions about how to deal with Iran, Netanyahu urged the world to remain vigilant against future Iranian aggression and efforts to wiggle out of nuclear safeguards.

Netanyahu also said that Israel is committed to maintaining the status quo on the Temple Mount and protecting freedom of religion.

As he has in speeches to the General Assembly over the past three years, Netanyahu devoted the lion’s share to Iran, this year denouncing the worldwide deal on its nuclear programme, warning that it would the Islamic Republic would use the hundreds of billions of frozen dollars unlocked by the accord to further terrorism around the world.

Abbas called on the U.N.to provide worldwide protection for the Palestinians on Wednesday saying that Israel has repeatedly violated its commitments, including by expanding settlements.

If Irans rulers were working to destroy your countries, perhaps youd be less enthusiastic about the deal. And the response from this body – the response from almost every one of the governments represented here – has been absolutely nothing.

He slammed the UN’s “deafening silence” in the face of Iran’s threats to wipe out Israel.

Netanyahu also warned, “When bad behavior is rewarded, it only gets worse”. Since Obama is the biggest proponent of giving Iran the tools to carry out its threat of annihilating Israel, it isn’t likely that Obama was interested in being scolded over what Israel feels is his complicit part in Iran’s plans.
