An app that lets you review real people
To join Peeple, users must use their real names and be at least 21 years old.
All you need to do is enter their mobile number into the app and it will allow you to start slagging them off or bigging them up. However, they won’t have an option to remove their profile from the app, according to Newsweek.
Posts on Peeple’s website defended the project, saying it’s meant to focus on the “good in people” and connect people with positive reviews. For those who are registered, negative reviews will be published after 48 hours of being written. As innovators we want to make your life better and have the opportunity to prove how great it feels to be loved by so many in a public space. “The world’s largest positivity app for positive people is launching November 2015 on iOS and Android”.
Peeple, a controversial online app described as “Yelp for humans” has disappeared from the web.
We judge and rate people personally and among a closed group. “The lack of context and more so consent is senseless and more so irresponsible”.
Others speculated that the app plans might be a hoax. LaCapria also pointed out that several details released about the service remained suspiciously vague. She also announced feature of the app, in which negative comments made about individuals would be posted after a certain time limit, would now no longer be part of it.
Since the interview with The Washington Post, I’ve received death threats and extremely insulting comments aimed at me, my investors, and my family on nearly every social media tool possible. Opponents have noted the hypocrisy of this, calling on Peeple to abandon itself immediately if it won’t even play along with its own app. Co-founders Julia Cordray and Nicole McCullough’s aim to build what they claim is only a “positive” system has so far resulted in only negative feedback – feedback that they seem rather too willing to ignore.
Despite the account deletion, it might not be the end of the road for Peeple just yet.
“You simply type whatever very bad thing you’re thinking, hit the button at the bottom of the page and the message will be deleted forever”, Oliver said. Actually, it’s the exact opposite.
