Sunderland Confirm Advocaat Exit
Harry Redknapp has played down suggestions he is in the frame to replace Dick Advocaat as manager of Sunderland – and also cast doubt on Sam Allardyce’s willingness to move to the Stadium of Light.
English football club Sunderland on Sunday announced that head coach Dick Advocaat has resigned, owing to a poor start in the Premier League. But a few of the basic things we are doing wrong, I am nowhere being OK with a few of our mistakes.
Short has been rocked by the loss of the two men he had hoped would rebuild his football club and must now begin the search for his fifth manager in two and a half years.
Advocaat has coached at both the club and global level during his career, including stints leading the Netherlands, South Korea and Russian Federation.
“I don’t want to discuss my own future”.
“While this isn’t a situation any of us envisaged being in, what is important now is that we regroup quickly and focus on the rest of the season.”
Nigel Pearson is another name being bandied around and having overseen an incredible run of results which saw Leicester somehow avoid what was a certain relegation, I can see why he is an option that the club would certainly consider.
However, Allardyce’s availability, proven track record and connections with the club make him an attractive proposition.
The former Croatia global further added that he holds Advocaat in very high regard and there aren’t many managers of his ilk in the game.
Pantilimon could not hold a shot from distance from Lanzini and Payet was on hand to convert the rebound and stun the locals inside the Stadium of Light. They showed what they can do and it’s good for the future of the club.
Allardyce can utilise pacey wingers such as Adam Johnson and Jermaine Lens and hungry forwards like Fabio Borini and Steven Fletcher to mirror the same attacking style he utilised West Ham last season, which should see them gain a lot more points throughout their league campaign.
Dick Advocaat says he didn’t feel like himself after becoming “negative’ in his final weeks as Sunderland manager“.
The global break will give the club time to recruit a replacement, who would ideally be in place a few time before the trip to West Brom on October 17.
“Is he going to get the same kind of treatment as Di Canio, as Poyet, and now Advocaat?”
