Google releases its new flagship smartphones Nexus 5X, 6P

Nexus 6P seems like an impressive smartphone and for a starting price of $500, it is really a strong contender. It has a 12-megapixel rear-facing main camera that’s capable of recording 4K resolution videos.

Just like the Nexus devices, Google‘s latest tablet offering is a flagship device, and promises to offer what all tablet users have been craving for – a powerful Android experience on a bigger screen.

The Nexus 5X has a 5.2-inch screen with the same 12.3 MP camera and Type-C port, as well as Nexus Imprint.

A main focus of the event was the official confirmation of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow platform, as evidenced by the press invites where Google highlighted “tasty treats and much s’more”. The Huawei Nexus 6P will cost US$499 for 32GB, US$549 for 64GB and US$649 for the 128GB model. These are the first smartphones with an Android upgrade codenamed Marshmallow. Both devices come with two new selling features apart from those included in Marshmallow – a fingerprint reader for Google Play support, and a USB Type C port.

The Nexus 5X is made by South Korea’s LG Electronics Inc and the Nexus 6P by China’s Huawei Technologies Co Ltd (華為). It is lighter compared to Apple’s new iPhone 6S Plus with a smaller 5.5-inch display weighing 199 grams.

Anyone interested in buying one of the new phones can pre-order one now from the Google Store; they’re scheduled to ship in October. The company also showcased the next-generation Chromecast streaming devices and its improved personal assistant “Now on Tap“.

Google says both Pixel C and the keyboard will be available in time for the holidays.

Google notes that in the event your device is stolen, you can also go ahead and find it via Android Device Manager.

Nexus smartphones and tablets are always the first to receive a major new Android update, and we already know that the Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7 (2013) and Nexus 9 will start being updated to Android Marshmallow next week.
