Yang maintains lead at US Women’s Open, Stacy Lewis 3 back

LANCASTER >> It may have been more about the course setup than anything else – with pins tucked and holes lengthened – but Lancaster Country Club certainly bared its teeth on Friday during round two of the United States Women’s Open.

“With some good breaks and really good putting, a round like (Saturday) comes together”, said Spieth, who will go for his third straight major title next week at the British Open.

PERHAPS SOME HISTORY: Regional favorite Nancy Lopez (1997) is the only player to shoot four rounds in the 60s in a U.S. Women’s Open.

She entered the final round at 1-over 211. Now, she wants the ultimate prize.

SUNDAY TEE TIMES: With 63 players remaining in the field, Haruka Morita-WanyaoLu opened Saturday’s third round with marker Alli Weaver. She was within two shots of the lead after a birdie at 14 before carding a bogey on the 17th hole.

The 25-year-old started her day with a birdie on the second after dropping her approach shot within four feet of the pin.

“I did everything today, but just couldn’t drop the putts”, she said. Stacy Lewis and Shiho Oyama follow tied in second today. In 2012, she finished second to Na Yeon Choi, and placed fifth in 2010. They were all a shot off the tournament record of 64 set previous year by Russ Cochran.

The two will be paired again Sunday. I’ve kind of embraced it. I’ve played with the pain for a while.

But a two-shot swing at the par-four 14th tightened the leaderboard as the South Korean bogeyed after a strong chip past the cup, while Lewis birdied to close within two.

That change in form carried over into the second round to propel Lewis near the top of the leaderboard.

“I mean it’s hard”.

“I think it’s great golf”.

Jane Park made a birdie and four pars Friday morning, moving into a tie for the lead after the first round of the rain-delayed U.S. Women’s Open. She has been in the last grouping two of the last three years, and in 2010.

“I got to just playing golf this last round and a half, I guess, and it’s what you’re seeing in the scores”, Lewis said when asked about her brightening chances.

Meanwhile, defending champion Michelle Wie brought herself back in contention with a second-round 68.

“I hit probably every putt short”, she said.

Karrie Webb, also a first-round co-leader, had a 2-over 72 and was in a large group at 2-under 138.

But In Gee Chun – another South Korean – moved into the mix with a 68 that included three birdies in the final six.

“I’m hitting it very solid throughout the week and it’s important to keep the ball on the fairway, especially this big, long rough”, Yang said.

Lee Lopez used a 6-iron to ace the 156-yard sixth hole, the 23rd hole-in-one in U.S. Women’s Open history. Yang said she was anxious to spend time with her parents, and her Cocker Spaniel, Bori.
