HDMI Licensing Launches 4KTV-Compatible Certification
HDMI® Licensing LLC has gone public with their new Premium HDMI Cable Certification Program.
HDMI Licensing will exhibit at the CEDIA Expo to outline its plans.
“With rapid growth of feature‐rich, 4K/UltraHD content, it’s critical that all components in a 4K/UltraHD HDMI‐connected system are fully capable of delivering on the experience”.
The recent program launched by the company, incorporates and enhances HDMI cable testing and a comprehensive anti-counterfeiting label program.
With the new voluntary HDMI Cable Certification Program, participating HDMI cable suppliers can test their cables at an HDMI Authorized Testing Center (ATC). These cables will also be tested for low electromagnetic interference emissivity to make sure they play well with nearby wireless devices. A device application that allows scanning, will help identify the authenticity of Premium High Speed HDMI Cable, by checking the label.
“We expect 4K to be adopted very quickly, and we are seeing the market trying to figure it out”. With that said, there is value in buying something that is well-made.
HDMI Licensing, the organization responsible for overseeing the HDMI standard, has developed a certification for HDMI cables specifically created to transmit Ultra HD content. The Premium HDMI Cable Certification Program will provide HDMI cable manufacturers with a standard created to weed out cables that are 4K-capable versus counterfeit products. “It ensures consumers get the best 4K experience, especially with HDR and high-frame rate content”. “That is why we are launching this proactive program to give consumers absolute peace‐of‐mind”, said Jeff Park, HDMI Licensing, LLC’s Technology Evangelist.
HDMI Licensing says Premium certified cables could be available as soon as the first quarter of 2016. Once approved, the premium certified cables will sport a tamper proof sticker, which should make it easier to find them in the sea of untested cables on the market.
“As they upgrade their equipment, consumers expect to fully enjoy the 4K/UltraHD features that the HDMI specification enables”, adds Tobias. But cables labeled “High Speed HDMI Cable” or “High Speed HDMI Cable with ethernet” (minus the “Premium Certified” and the label with the QR code) should perform just as well-provided they’re made by a legitimate manufacturer.
